Bearded, bad-boy barber Knox prefers to live his life the way he takes his coffee: Alone. Unless you count his basset hound, Waylon.
Knox doesn’t tolerate drama, even when it comes in the form of a stranded runaway bride.
Naomi wasn’t just running away from her wedding. She was riding to the rescue of her estranged twin to Knockemout, Virginia, a rough-around-the-edges town where disputes are settled the old-fashioned way…with fists and beer. Usually in that order.
Too bad for Naomi her evil twin hasn’t changed at all. After helping herself to Naomi’s car and cash, Tina leaves her with something unexpected. The niece Naomi didn’t know she had. Now she’s stuck in town with no car, no job, no plan, and no home with an 11-year-old going on thirty to take care of.
There’s a reason Knox doesn’t do complications or high-maintenance women, especially not the romantic ones. But since Naomi’s life imploded right in front of him, the least he can do is help her out of her jam. And just as soon as she stops getting into new trouble he can leave her alone and get back to his peaceful, solitary life.
At least, that’s the plan until the trouble turns to real danger.

Lucy Score’s Things We Never Got Over is the perfect start to the Knockemout Series, offering a delightful mix of romance, drama, and humor. The story follows Naomi, who finds herself running away from her wedding and thrown into an unexpected situation when she learns she has a niece she didn’t know about. Enter Knox, a grumpy, bearded, bad boy who has no interest in getting involved but can’t seem to stay away from Naomi. Their dynamic embodies the classic grumpy/sunshine trope, and the chemistry between them is absolutely off the charts.
As the first book in the Knockemout Series, *Things We Never Got Over* delivers a slow-burn romance that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The slow pace of the romance allows for incredible character development, and the tension between Naomi and Knox is palpable. The small-town setting adds a comforting charm, while the drama in Naomi’s life, including her fake dating situation with Knox, keeps things interesting.
This book is full of lovable characters, particularly Naomi’s best friend, who adds a great deal of heart and humor to the story. The age gap between Knox and Naomi adds another layer of tension, making the moments they come together even more rewarding.
Lucy Score’s storytelling is amazing—funny at times, heartwarming at others, and always entertaining. If you’re a fan of small-town romance with a healthy dose of drama, *Things We Never Got Over* is a comforting read you won’t want to miss.
